Welcome to our charming self-catering cottage, nestled in the heart of the Elephant Coast, with stunning views of Sodwana Bay and Zululand right at your doorstep.
Immersed in an ancient sand forest, the property is surrounded by majestic Lebombo trees, some dating back 500 to 1500 years, growing a mere 1-2mm in diameter annually. Stepping into this enchanted Sand Forest feels like entering a realm born from the wildest of imaginations, where centuries-old trees coexist with a vibrant array of birds, butterflies, and spiders, creating an awe-inspiring experience.
The significance of the Lebombo Wattle trees extends further, protected by the Zulu king, who reserves the privilege of burning this hardwood in his fires, adding a touch of mystique to this magical place.
The cottage's strategic location allows for easy exploration of various game reserves and bird-watching sites.
Inside, you'll find a spacious, luxurious bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and an invigorating outside shower under a +-1,000-year-old Lebombo Wattle tree.
The fully equipped kitchen, separate from the bedroom, provides all the essentials for self-catering, including a fridge, gas stove with cooking pots and pans, toaster, microwave, kettle, and utensils. An outdoor braai area awaits on the deck, complete with a three-legged cast iron pot and braai grid, offering a delightful dining experience amidst the woods.
The atmosphere is enhanced by amiable dogs, cats, and chickens who might visit during your stay. While there's no TV, free uncapped Wi-Fi allows for streaming and staying connected. Additionally, the unit is thoughtfully equipped with emergency Solar power.
If Lucky, you may be serenaded by the enchanting sounds of traditional Zulu music from the neighbourhood.
Throughout your stay, our homely cottage is exclusively yours to enjoy, and we, your hosts, are readily available to ensure your comfort and delight during this enchanting experience. Welcome to your home away from home.
The cottage is nestled in an indigenous sand forest, where magnificent +-1000 years old Lebombo Wattle trees (Newtonia hildebrandtii) create a mesmerizing atmosphere. The sunsets from your veranda, overlooking this enchanting forest, are truly spectacular.
The biodiversity centred around the ancient Lebombo Wattle trees attracts a diverse array of birds, butterflies, moths, and other species, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. In the forest, an orphanage is located nearby, where the children delight guests with beautiful traditional Zulu and religious songs, welcoming donations.
This forest sustains various animals, with day residents including squirrels and monkeys, while the birdsong, including the Barn Owl, fills the air. Our location falls under the Ingonyama Trust land, established to administer the traditionally owned land of the Zulu people, preserving their heritage and well-being.
On our smallholding, we keep a special flock of free-range laying hens known as Ayam Cemani, renowned for their rarity and striking all-black feathers with a redhead, earning them the nickname "devil chicken."
Various exciting activities await you, such as exploring the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, a big five-game reserve, and enjoying scuba diving, snorkelling, and fishing at Sodwana Bay. False Bay Resort offers walking trails, birdwatching, cycling tracks, and fishing opportunities, while St. Lucia provides thrilling hippo and crocodile tours and charter trips on the lakes. Don't miss the Hluhluwe pineapple tours, Hluhluwe crock and reptile farm, and delightful restaurants like Rifikis, Ngweni Railway, and Delishh.
