Not only is Boutique Ocean Views the ideal holiday retreat, but it also has a history dating back to the 1930s, with the heritage cottage Wendy's, on the property. Located in the heart of the coastal fishing village of Hermanus, ‘Wendy’s’ is named after a lone female whale that used to visit the town in the late 1930s. According to SJ du Toit’s book, ‘Hermanus Stories’, this whale, fondly known as Wendy, was considered one of the family by the village folk, as she returned yearly.

She stopped coming to the bay in the early 1940s, but the house situated on the rocks, near that lonesome spot, was named Wendy’s cottage in her honour. The tradition continued to the 1950s when another female whale was named Wendy. The press regularly reported on the movements of Wendy and her calf.

Today we still refer to the heritage building on the property as ‘Wendy’s’, in honour of the female whales that can regularly be spotted, with their calves, for your room or the living areas of Boutique Ocean Views from the end of June to late-October every year.
